Soy Soberana | I Am Sovereign is a bold and rebellious work inspired by the courage of Iranian women who remove their headscarves publicly, visibly, and without apology. It is rooted in the force of women’s movements everywhere: the insistence on choosing for ourselves, deciding over our own bodies, and taking full responsibility for our lives, with everything that this freedom demands.
This piece touches something deeply personal: the meaning of hair. Not only as aesthetics, but as a symbol of identity, ancestry, memory, and belonging. It asks why hair has so often become a site of control, punishment, and violence - and reclaims it instead as a language of sovereignty.
Colorful, loud, provocative, and unapologetically political, Soy Soberana portrays a fearless woman who exists on her own terms. Her presence is an act of resistance. Her hair becomes a gesture of liberation, irreverence, and the right to be fully seen.
